It’s no great surprise the sheer musical solidity and delicacy of any ensemble with drummer Ed Schuller and drummer Paul Motion.  With a piano, with the worst that could happen is a comparison with a Keith Jarrett trio, which I shan’t do here.  Pianist Lossing, new to me, is a joy.  Yes, he could be said to be of the Jarrett school, but with no hint of auto-pilot and no humming.  Exploration of the themes is what the listener feels, emotionally and intellectually, Schuller laying down a thoughtful path, and Motion, as always, playing a lot yet never sounding busy.  He’s one of the great texture-men.  The articulate writer Art Lange here gets metaphysical rather than informative; I’m assuming his ten part essay is a descriptive of each of the ten tracks, although the final five tunes are labelled under “Suite of Time.”  Highly recommended music, and continued praise to hatHut for the thin packaging.
